Women Build
![]() Heartland Habitat for Humanity presents Women Build 2008! Join NASCAR driver Jennifer Jo Cobb, KMBZ 980’s Darla Jaye, KCTV5’s Sandra Olivas and Heartland Habitat for Humanity to build a house with all women volunteers. What is Women Build? Women Build is a program, initiated by Habitat for Humanity International, which encourages women to be the primary volunteer source for a local home build. The project is about empowering women to create change in every neighborhood across the nation. The goal of this program is to encourage women to address the crisis of children in poverty by building homes with families in need. Nationally, women make up 50 percent of Habitat’s volunteer force, yet women account for only 15 percent of volunteers actively doing construction. Volunteers of all skill levels are encouraged to get involved. More than 800 homes have been built by crews of women nationwide. This is the second year for Heartland Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build.
“Women Build presents a great opportunity for women who might normally be intimidated on a construction site to learn new skills and work with a family to build a Habitat home,” said Delia Hernandez, HHfH Development Director. “This is a great team building opportunity for corporate groups and faith-based organizations, and women that aren’t part of a group are sure to make new friends.” We encourage women 16 years and above to come see what it’s like to build a house with all women volunteers. Our volunteers do NOT need experience in construction. Heartland Habitat for Humanity will provide training. Men are not excluded from volunteering. For more information about volunteering, contact Kate Fields at 913.342.3047 or [ email ] or register online . We kicked-off Women Build 2008 with Señoritas and Margaritas June 4 at Corona Cantina #1 in the Legends Shopping Center. View the Pictures from the event here: Stay in the Women Build loop!
