Every day there is news about today's trying economic times. Nonprofits are struggling. Corporations are reducing their philanthropic giving. Foundations affected by the down market have less to invest in the community. However, despite the grim outlook, Heartland Habitat for Humanity continues to thrive and remain a wise investment for donors.
"People are looking for a strong investment of their charitable dollars," said Tom Lally, Executive Director of Heartland Habitat for Humanity. "We are succeeding because donors know they can trust us to be good stewards of their support and use their contributions to make a significant impact on the lives of families."
In fact, despite the worst economic conditions in decades, in 2008-2009 Heartland Habitat has:
· Built 16 new homes and rehabbed 5 older homes in Wyandotte, Johnson and Leavenworth counties in Kansas and Clay and Platte counties in Missouri.
· Diverted 40 tons of usable building materials away from landfills and recycled the back into the community through ReStore.
· Engaged 21 families in homeowner classes, resulting in improved property conditions and revitalized neighborhoods.
· Expanded its partner base resulting in new building projects in often overlooked communities.
If you are looking for an organization that can endure difficult economic times and still make a difference in the community, consider a gift to Heartland Habitat for Humanity.
