Heartland Habitat Celebrates 25 Years of Fulfilling Dreams for Local Families

In 1987, A.C. Cuppy approached the city council of Kansas City, Kansas with a vision: to start a Habitat for Humanity affiliate. Twenty-five years later, his vision is stronger and more alive than ever. With the help of local volunteers, donors and funders, Heartland Habitat has built or rehabbed over 240 homes for local families in need of safe, decent and affordable housing.

In 2012, as Heartland Habitat celebrates its 25th anniversary, the organization will embark upon projects that will help define the organization's next 25 years. These milestone projects include:

* 1% for Habitat: Heartland Habitat and the architecture firm el dorado inc will break ground on Heartland Habitat's first sustainable, eco-friendly home. Read more about it here.

* ReStore in the Northland: Heartland Habitat ReStore will expand into Kansas City's Northland community.

* Home Builds: Plans are underway for at least 10 construction projects in 2012, including another home in Olathe in partnership with the Olathe School District and a Women Build project.

* Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative: Heartland Habitat will continue expanding and enhancing its programs and services to strengthen and reach entire neighborhoods and communities.

* Homeowner Education: Heartland Habitat will be strengthening its homeowner education programs and classes with a new financial preparation component, Common Cents.

Events that help build better futures

To help place low-income families in affordable homes, Heartland Habitat for Humanity must always be in a fund-raising mode. It’s one big reason why we sponsor special events year-round. They also provide us with the opportunity to publicly honor donors and volunteers who are so critical to our mission.
