When Jeri Womack's son came home talking about the "magic letter" he found that day, she didn't think much about it. Little did she know that "magic letter" would change her family's life. The "letter" her son found was an informational flyer on Heartland Habitat for Humanity's homeowner application process. When Jeri saw it, her dream of homeownership was born.
The Womacks were struggling at the time. Jeri's husband, Damien, had been laid off and was working at a local retail store just to make ends meet. They were paying an exorbitant amount of rent each month for a unit that was too small for their needs and those of their two children, Lyric and Dorien. The unit also had significant structural issues.
The Womacks attended an informational meeting and began the Heartland Habitat homeowner application process. They qualified and completed the extensive homeowner process, including contributing "sweat equity" hours by volunteering building homes and completing homeowner classes. Today, the Womacks are the proud owners of a new and affordable Heartland Habitat home. The "magic letter" turned into a dream come true.
