About The Community Revitalization Program
Habitat for Humanity International has recognized a need in our communities and neighborhoods beyond new home construction. In response to this need, Habitat created the Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRI). Heartland Habitat is a proud participating affiliate in the NRI program.
"Heartland Habitat's work extends beyond providing safe, decent and affordable homes for families in need," said Tom Lally, Executive Director. "All of our efforts are designed to strengthen the community, revitalize neighborhoods and improve the lives of the families we serve."
In 2009, Habitat for Humanity International announced the formal launch of the Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative. The initiative encourages affiliates to serve more families and to create more resilient and sustainable communities by offering a variety of services in addition to new house construction.
“If we are going to help families thrive in healthy neighborhoods, we have to direct some significant efforts into healing America’s troubled communities,” said Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International. “These affiliates will work together to develop strategies and create strong networks that can address individual neighborhood issues.”
The Components of NRI
NRI will help improve the quality of life in neighborhoods through local community-planning partnerships and by expanding Heartland Habitat’s housing services. This will increase the number of families that we can assist in living in safe, decent, affordable housing. The five (5) components of NRI are:
New Home Construction
Neighborhood Revitalization
A Brush With Kindness
Weatherization
Homeowner Education
