Non-Hardhats are Needed, Too
Most people think of swinging a hammer when they think about volunteering for Heartland Habitat, but there is a tremendous amount of planning and management required to build just one home. Heartland Habitat has a constant need for committee members and volunteers to help with various tasks. Families with younger volunteers (under the age of 16) often opt to help out here. You don't need to be an expert. Many tasks require only a willingness to learn and work with others. Listed below are some of the non-construction volunteer opportunities.
Donate Your Leadership and Expertise
Interested in joining a committee? Simply contact Tom Lally, Executive Director of Heartland Habitat, at tom@heartlandhabitat.org or (913) 342-3047 to express your interest. Committees include:
Family Selection
This committee organizes and carries out the application, interview and selection process. The Family Selection Committee finds the families who fit the criteria of need for shelter, have the ability to make no-interest loan payments and are willing to partner with Habitat for Humanity.
Faith Relations
This committee cultivates Heartland Habitat for Humanity's relationship with local churches, seeks covenant churches and maintains ties to churches currently involved with our affiliate. Visit the Faith Relations section of the website for more information.
Volunteer
Volunteer Committee members act as site hosts, work with the Volunteer Coordinator to recruit volunteers, coordinate with the special events committee and assist in tracking and recognizing volunteers. This committee is currently seeking members.
Fund Development
Fund Development Committee members research, recruit and refer potential donors, major gift funders and home sponsors; and recommend and review public relations, community relations and communications/marketing plans for the affiliate. The committee is also responsible for planning and executing special events, and developing ideas for future events, including theme builds.
Give the Gift of Knowledge
If you have knowledge in plumbing, electrical, heating/venting, etc., you could become a Workshop Leader and teach homeowners and volunteers your craft.
Calling All Cooks
Get your group together and join the Lunch Bunch! Construction volunteers love to be thanked with a great meal. Gather your group together and feed Heartland Habitat's hungry volunteers.
Do You have the Gift of Hospitality
Become an on-site greeter and assist the site supervisors with morning registration and on-site orientation.

Events that help build better futures
To help place low-income families in affordable homes, Heartland Habitat for Humanity must always be in a fund-raising mode. It’s one big reason why we sponsor special events year-round. They also provide us with the opportunity to publicly honor donors and volunteers who are so critical to our mission.
